Heritage Laser Scanning & Documentation | Australia
Heritage fabric cannot be measured with destructive methods. Laser scanning records stone, timber, brick, and decorative detail at millimetre resolution without contact. The resulting point cloud supports conservation plans, grant applications, structural assessment, and careful adaptive reuse design.
Brisbane Point Cloud documents churches, public buildings, Queenslanders, industrial heritage, and cultural landscapes across SEQ. We work with heritage architects, councils, and conservation specialists to deliver formats suitable for submission and long-term archive.
Challenges
- Fragile surfaces and restricted physical access to detail
- Heritage significance requiring complete geometric record
- Funding applications needing measured drawings and visual evidence
- Integration with structural engineer assessment of ageing fabric
- Public access sites requiring discrete, low-impact capture
How we serve this sector
- High-resolution terrestrial scans with colour imagery
- Measured elevations, sections, and floor plans for conservation reports
- Orthophotos and unwrap outputs for stonework and facade detail
- Repeat scans to monitor movement or settlement over time
- Archive formats (E57, LAS) for long-term digital preservation
Typical projects
Timber church documentation for conservation grant
Queenslander elevation and room schedule for adaptive reuse
Industrial heritage kiln and chimney structural record
Cemetery and memorial monument survey
Public hall internal fabric before refurbishment
FAQs: Heritage & Cultural
Is laser scanning safe for old timber and plaster?+
Yes. Terrestrial LiDAR is non-contact and uses low-power laser pulses. There is no physical pressure on fabric and no flash photography. It is widely used on listed buildings in Australia and overseas for exactly this reason.
What deliverables do heritage consultants usually need?+
Most conservation reports combine a colour point cloud, ortho elevations of significant facades, key sections through the building, and a room schedule with dimensions. We tailor the package to your heritage architect or council submission checklist.
