Measured drawings range from 1:50 overall geometry to 1:10 detail of cornices, columns, and decorative panels, all extracted from one capture without returning to site. Repeat scans build a movement baseline for ageing fabric, measuring settlement or tilt at millimetre level without attaching anything to the structure. The point cloud becomes both a conservation tool and a permanent record for the place.

Is laser scanning safe for old timber and plaster?+
Yes. Terrestrial LiDAR is non-contact and uses low-power laser pulses. There is no physical pressure on fabric and no flash photography. It is widely used on listed buildings in Australia and overseas for exactly this reason.
What deliverables do heritage consultants usually need?+
Most conservation reports combine a colour point cloud, ortho elevations of the main facades, key sections through the building, and a room schedule with dimensions. We tailor the package to your heritage architect or council submission checklist.
Which standards do you document heritage to?+
We follow the Burra Charter, the Australia ICOMOS charter for places of cultural significance, and the ICOMOS principles for the recording of monuments, groups of buildings and sites. Measured drawings are presented to AS 1100. For Queensland heritage-listed places we work to the relevant requirements of the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, and deliverables are formatted for lodgement with the state heritage register.
How should heritage scan data be archived?+
We recommend E57 as the primary archival format. It is an open, vendor-neutral standard maintained as ASTM E2807 that stores coordinates, intensity, colour, and scanner metadata, so the data remains readable as software changes. We supply a secondary copy in LAS for GIS use. Both suit submission to state heritage archives and long-term digital preservation.
